Trip Highlights: The Yunnan-Vietnam Railway or Sino-Vietnamese Railwa was a 855 km railway built by France during 1904-1910, connecting Haiphong,Vietnam with Kunming, Yunnan. Now the old railway is out of the use in Yunnan, the gorverment is building the New Yunnan-Vietnam Railway which is one part of the Trans-Asian Railway from Singapore to Vietnam and China. You will follow the Sino-Vietnamese Railway from Hanoi to Kunming. In Vietnam, You will visit the Halong Bay in Hanoi, and take the junk boat cruise in Ha Long Bay. After the cruise you will take the train from Hanoi to Laocai, that is one part of the Sino-Vietnamese Railway. Enter Yunnan from Hekou Border, and visit Kunming, the Stone Forest, Jianshui Anient Town, Mengzi County, Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces, Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La. Finish the trip in Kunming, this trip will take you to experience different countries with exotic ethnic culture.

Arrive Hanoi. Meet your Travelo Vietnam guide and transfer by private vehicle to your hotel.

Overnight Hanoi at Phuc Loi Hotel.

Sightseeing:Halong Bay, Beautiful Caves

Early morning transfer by private vehicle with guide to HaLong (3.5 hours drive – 180 km). Transfer to the dock and board your Vietnamese junk for the start of your overnight cruise through the beautiful scenic UNESCO World Heritage site of HaLong Bay. Visit Thien Cung & Dau Go caves, two of most beautiful caves here.

Enjoy Kayaking at late afternoon. You have chance to discovery the Lan Ha Bay by kayaking as well.

Dinner on Board. Enjoy fishing on night.

Sightseeing:Morning cruising,the ceramic village of Bat Trang

Sightseeing:Visiting Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, the Ngoc Son Temple

Morning sightseeing (Cyclo Hanoi City Tour: 8 am – 4:30 pm). Start visiting Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, and his house on stilts in the grounds of the Presidential Palace. Continue to the One-pillared pagoda, Dien Huu Pagoda. Your final stop this morning will be the Temple of Literature. Afternoon visits to the Ngoc Son Temple which is situated on a small island in picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake. Complete your day with a leisurely one-hour cyclo tour through the historic Old Quarter of Hanoi. Then you will attend a performance of Vietnamese Water Puppet Show. Dinner at Local Restaurant.

Evening transfer to Hanoi train station for the overnight train to Lao Cai Province. Overnight on the train. (departs about 9-10 pm; approx. 9 hours).

Sightseeing:Cat Cat Village, the home of H’mong Ethnic minority

Early morning arrival. Meet your guide and transfer by private vehicle to tour Sapa area. Take 2 km short trek to Cat Cat Village, the home of H’mong Ethnic minority; meeting & talking with locals to learn more about their daily life.

Overnight in Chau Long (New Wing) – 4 star.

Sightseeing: Nymph Cave,Trung Do Village,the Ham Rong Mountain, Apple Garden, Orchid Garden, Horizon,…

Travel with guide to Coc Ly Market (Held on Tuesday only on week). 7 am – lunch.

Then Take Boat visit Nymph Cave, then to visit Trung Do Village. After that move to Bac Ha for lunch. Continue take Boat along of the Chay river. Meet the car and guide, they bring you back Sapa Town. Visit the Ham Rong Mountain, Apple Garden, Orchid Garden, Horizon,… Evening, free time for explore the Sapa Town with Lively of Minorities here. Sightseeing: Transfer to Chinese border at Hekou

After breakfast, the car and guide pick up you, transfer from Sapa to Lao Cai (38km) pass to Vietnam/Chinese Border (Hekou). End of Vietnam services.

Transfer to Chinese border at Hekou. The guide will leave you at the border on Vietnamese side (Lao Cai) and you will cross by foot to the Chinese side (Hekou). After the formalities, you will enter China and meet your Chinese guide in at custom hall of Hekou border then driving to Yuanyang.

Hekou is the border between China and Vietnam. Here you will start the ethnic exploration in Yunnan Province of China.

Sightseeing: Duoyishu Scenic Resort,Quanfu zhuang Rest House, and also the Bada Terrace.

Visit the Duoyishu Scenic Resort in early morning, view the terraced fields. The valley is filled with heavy mist, enjoy the sunrise, visit Quanfu zhuang Rest House, and also the Bada Terrace. Visit the HaNi People’s village. To have the local people’s tradition foods free of charge as the Dinner. Go to Saidao spa take a bath at your own expenses in evening (RMB100.00 per person). Sightseeing: Jianshui Confucius Temple, Jianshui Swallow Cave, the sunset of Laohuzui Rice Terraces

In the morning, visit Jianshui Confucius Temple near Jianshui Ancient Town, then drive about half an hour to the Swallow Cave which is the largest cave in east Yunnan Province. You will walk into the end of the cave, then take the boat back to the entrance. A bare-handed rock climbing show up perilous cliffs can be seen everyday and is arranged by the administrative department. Every year, from August 8 to 18, the “Collection of Bird Nest” activity is staged.

Drive to Yuanyang in the afternoon. On arrival in Yuanyang, if you are lucky enough, you will enjoy the sunset of Laohuzui Hani Rice Terraces in Panzhihua Town. Visit the Mengnong Chieftain Palace and stay there in the late afternoon.

–Jianshui Confucius Temple

The biggest temple in Yunnan.Located near the north Gate of Jianshui. Its scale is second only to that of the Qufu Confucius temple in Shandong Province and is now one of the provincial historical relics.

–Jianshui Swallow Cave

Located in the 30km east of Jianshui, known as one of the biggest and most splendid cave in Asia, consisting of a dry cave ,a water cave and a 30,000sqkm natural forest ,with a total area of 100,000 sqkm. In spring and summer, thousands of swallows fly here from Malaysia,building nests and giving birth to and raising young swallows .Thus it is named “The Swallow Cave” .

Sightseeing: Zhu Family Garden, Chaoyang Tower, Tuanshan Village, Double Double Dragon Bridge, the Old Wells

–The Chaoyang Gateway Arch

Built in 1389Ad, it stands in the center of city as the symbol of this ancient military town in the southeast border and an emblem of Jianshui,a historic and cultural city. Its significance to Jianshui is the same as that of Tian’ Anmen to Beijing.The Arch was built as the town’s east gate tower (The Yinghui Gate). Through 600 years’ vicissitude, the Chaoyang Gateway Arch is the only extant tower. Today, it is a public cultural center of Jianshui County.

–Zhu Family Garden

With a total area of 20k sqkm and a floor space of 5k sqkm, The grand complex is a typical local residence with distinctive features.As it was built by Zhu brothers in the late Qing Dynasty,it got the name “the Private Garden of the Zhu Family.

–Shuanglong Bridge(Twin Dragons) – 3km west of Jianshui, the 17-Arch Bridge arches across the confluence of the Lujiang River and the Tachong River. Although the 17 spans were built in different eras, they matched perfectly, with 3-storied pavilion sitting in the middle and 2 at the ends of the bridge. It is considered one of the beautifully built ancient bridge of the nation, and has been classified as an important cultural relic under provincial protection.

–Tuanshan VillageTuanshan Village – centries old,13km west of Jianshui City. Built in Qing Dynasty, regarded as the Gem of Chinese Civil Houses.Visiting Tuanshan Village is like travelling to another China. Small, cobbled lanes and old women with bound feet blend leave you with impressions of timelessness, art and architecture.

Sightseeing: the Stone Forest, Kunming City Tour, the Green Lake

In the morning ,drive to visit the Stone Forest in the morning. There is a local saying: ‘It is a waste of time not to visit the Stone Forest while visiting Kunming’, which vividly expresses the deep love of the local people toward this world wonder. The quintessential karst landscape makes every tourist lost in wonder. After lunch drive about 80KM to Kunmning to visit the landmark of Kunming-the Golden Horse and Phoenix Archway, which is located at the corner of Sanshi Road and Jinbi Road. And then, we will take a leisurely stroll along the Green Lake, a charming area of teahouses and small boutiques selling handicrafts and beautiful local paintings.

You’ll begin your journey to the diverse and captivating province of Yunnan from the capital city, Kunming. Upon arrival at the Kunming International Airport, meet your local guide and transfer to the hotel.

— Kunming is the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan province, a primarily agricultural province of 45 million. Kunming has a population of five million and is located in one of the world’s most geographically, ethnically, biologically and linguistically diverse regions. Situated at 1,900 meters (6,233ft) above sea level and 25° north of the Equator it has a rather unique and pleasant climate for a Chinese city.

Sightseeing: the Western Hills, Dianchi Lake, Yunnan Ethnic Villages, Guandu Ancient Town, Jingang Pagoda

Optional Special Experience:Enjoy the large-scale dance drama “Dynamic Yunnan” in Kunming People’s Hall (show time: from 20:00-21:30).

You will drive 86 km to the Stone Forest. An old local saying says that ‘If you have visited Kunming without seeing the Stone Forest, you have wasted your time.’ Truly, the Stone Forest is one of the most important attractions of Yunnan. After lunch drive back Kunming to visit the Guandu Ancient Town which is a famous historical & cultural town in Kunming; it keeps the main architectural style of Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties.

After dinner, you will have an option to enjoy the large-scale dance drama “Dynamic Yunnan” which has been an outstanding innovation on the Chinese stage in recent years directed by Yang Liping. Primitive, unsophisticated folk dances and a fresh artistic concept converge in the programme, giving audiences a unique “Yunnan Impression.” Sixty-two drums and 120 masks of strong ethnic characteristics are incorporated in the performance.

— The Stone Forest is in Shilin Yi Nationality Autonomous County, which is about 120 kilometers from Kunming and requires only a three-hour drive. It covers an area of 400 square kilometers (96,000 acres) and includes both large and small stone forests, as well as many other scenic spots. The Stone Forest has unique karst topography which is one of the best of its kind within China. There are six scenic spots in the Stone Forest: the Greater Stone Forest, the Lesser Stone Forest, the Naigu Stone Forest, the Zhiyun Cave, the Long Lake, the Da Dieshui Waterfall and the Qifeng Cave.

— –Guandu Ancient town is of long history, it is the birth place of Dian Culture. As early as Nanzhao Dali period, it was a big town and hub of the east bank of Dian. It was inhabited 4000 years ago. It has a ferry in Song Dynasty, and many official boats stopped at the ferry, got out of the boat and rode a horse or sit in the litter to get into Kunming. So it got its name “Guandu” (Guan Means official, Du means Ferry). In Ming and Qing Dynasty, it became a developed business and handicraft center.

Sightseeing: the Three-pagoda in Chongshen Temple, Erhai Lake Cruise,Xizhou Town, Zhoucheng Village

Three Pagodas are made of three ancient independent pagodas forming a symmetrical triangle.

After lunch, you’ll cruise in Erhai Lake by the small boat to the Jinsuo Islet in the east Erhai Lake. There are 200 Bai ethnic families around 1000 people in Jinsuo Island.In Erhai Lake cruise, you will enjoy the green Cangshan Mountain and the Three Pagodas from a far as well as lots of birds and seagulls flying over the lake.

After landing, you will head for Xizhou Town to fully appreciate Bai-style traditional architectural courtyards, taste their fragrant Three-Course Tea and explore their distinctive culture. Visit Zhoucheng Village and the Bai people’s Tie-dying cloth workshop where you can take some special souvenir with the Bai ethnic style. At last, you will visit the Ancient Dali Town, walk around the Foreigner Street and enjoy the relax time with local people. After climbing up to the City Wall of Dali, you will have panoramic view of the Erhai Lake.

Sightseeing: Shaping Bazaar, Black Dragon Pool, Dongba Museum, Lijiang Ancient Town

Explore Dali Ancient Town in the early morning, visit the Shaping Balaar happened every Monday in Shangguan Town. Drive about 180KM to Lijiang with the beautiful farmlands and ethnic villages on the way. Lunch at NO.8 Restaurant at the bank of Black Dragon Pool, after lunch you’ll head for the scenic Black Dragon Pool and the Dongba Museum to explore the rich Naxi minority culture.

In the late afternoon, explore Lijiang Old Town.Lijiang Old Town has a history more than 800 years; it was listed as the World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO 1997. Here you will see the wonderful wooden architecture of Naxi ethnic people. After dinner, you will attend the Naxi Orchestral Music in Naxi Concert in Lijiang Ancient Town.

–Black Dragon Pool (also Heilongtan),located at the foot of the Elephant Mountain, about 2 kilometers away from Lijiang Ancient Town is the main headwater of the Yushui River which goes through the Old Town. It is just like the bright eyes of the town, shining with the wisdom. People believe that the gods of the Naxi people are living in the chestnut woods, beside the mouth of springs, behind the carved doors and below the bridges. The springs come from the god-protected mountains and gather in this place and finally form the dragon pool. Then water goes down a waterfall and becomes the Yuhe River, pouring life to the Old Town.

–Lijiang Ancient Town is a largely Naxi settlement first built 800years agao, located at the foot of the Lion Hill and completely surrounded by the new city of Lijiang.In December 1986, the State Council designated it a famous ancient historical and cultural city of national caliber. In 1997, UNESCO made Lijiang a World Cultural Heritage Site. Most of the dwellings, scattered at the foot of a mountain or by the river, are brick-and-tile structures with carved doors and painted windows. Traffic across the river is facilitated by a large number of tiny stone bridges. The town is similar to the Zhouzhuang Water Town in the south of the Yangtze River.

Sightseeing: Yulong Snow Mountain,Spruce Meadow, Baisha Village and Murals,Baishui River and Terraces

Special Experience:Enjoy the Impression Lijiang Ethnic Show in Ganhaizi Meadow(3100m).

Enjoy the sunrise of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Lijiang Ancient Town in the morning, drive about 30KM to Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M), you will take the sightseeig bus for a short visiting through the Baishuihe River, take the chairlift up to visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The cableway will be arranged according to the condition of the mountain. You will hike around1 hours in the original forest in Spruce Meadow (3200M).

After lunch, you will enjoy the Impression Lijang Ethnic Show directed in Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M). A cultural show demonstrating the traditions and lifestyles of the Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the area. The show takes place inside Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500m in an outdoor theater specifically designed to showcase the mountain which is used as a backdrop. The production itself was designed by Zhang Yimou, Fan Yue and Wang Chaoge, a cast of over 500 people, and a number of horses.In the afternoon, you’ll stroll through Baisha Village, which is an enchanting traditional Yunnan village. Visit the Baisha Mural about 600 years old, which is one part of the World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO 1997.

–Jade Dragon Snow Mountain stretches a length of 35 kilometers (22 miles) and a width of 20 kilometers (13 miles). Looking from Lijiang Old Town in the south which is 15 kilometers (nine miles) away, the snow-covered and fog-enlaced mountain resembles a jade dragon lying in the clouds, hence, the name Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The highest peak named Fan Peak (Shanzidou in Chinese) which is about 5596 meters above sea level. There are three cablecars in the mountain, the fist to the Glacier Park(4500M),the second to Spruce Meadow(3200M),the third to Yak Meadow(3700M).

Sightseeing: Shigu Ancient Town, the Iron Chain Bridge, Stone Drum,Tiger Leaping Gorge

Special Experience:the floating tour at First Bend of the Yangtze River from Shigu Town to Longpan Town

From Lijiang, you’ll drive about 60KM to the First Bend on the Yangtze River with imposing gorge scenery, visit the Iron Chain Bridge,the Red Army’s Long March Memorial Monument in the Shigu town. The town of Stone Drum got its name from a large, cylindrical, marble tablet shaped like a drum. The scenery is magnificent as the road running through the Lijiang valley which is filled with wheat fields and drying haystacks. You will have an experience of the floating from the First Bend of the Yangtze River to Longpan Town, after one hour floating, meet the driver and trasfer to Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Visit the Tiger Leaping Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. With 34 rapids of the Yangtze River, it is called the Jinsha in this area because you can find gold in the river. Afternoon, you’ll head for Shangri La, the former Zhongdian which is welknown as the paradise destination for every tourist. Upon arrival in Shangri La, you will have entered the Tibetan cultural area and a landscape of barley fields and yaks scattered in the valleys. Walk around Dukezong Ancient Town, an important town of the Ancient Tea-horse Trade Caravan from Yunnan to Tibet and India.

— Tiger Leaping Gorge is on the Jinsha River of the upper reaches of the Yangtze, located 105 kilometers south of Shangrila County. The gorge is 17 kilometers long with a drop of 213 meters. Tiger Leaping Gorge is divided into three sections: Upper, Middle and Lower Hutiao. At the narrowest spot the river is only 30 meters wide. The mouth of the gorge is 1,800 meters above sea level. The river is flanked by Yulong and Haba snow mountains, with a height difference of 3,900 meters. It is one of the deepest gorges in the world.

Sightseeing: Sogzanlin Monastery, the Bita Lake & Shudu Lake, Dukezong Ancient Town, the largest Prayer Wheel

In the morning, visit the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery in Yunnan. Songzanlin Monastery has another alias – ‘the little Potala Palace ‘, so named because the whole monastery is in the traditional style with mysterious atmosphere.And afterwards you’ll visit the tranquil Bita Lake & Shudu Lake in Pudacuo National Park Pudacuo National Park is located in one of the most biologically-diverse regions of the world. While the region comprises only 0.7 percent of China’s land area, it contains more than 20 percent of the country’s plant species, about one-third of its mammal and bird species and almost 100 endangered species.

Visit Dukezong Tibetan Ancient Town in the late afternoon, climb up to the top of Guishan Hill or tortoise Hill, you will see the largest Prayer Wheel of the world and have a panoramic view of shangrila county and Dukezong Ancient Town. Finally, you will visit a Tibetan’s family to experience the local life in the bonfire party with Tibetan dance and music and you will try Tibetan home-made yak and cheese

Vietnam and Indochina has the utmost luxury hotels and other tour facilities to cater to your budget. For a budget higher than the one stated, we can make some of the following modification to your program based on your request.
Flights in Business or First Class flight (compared with Economy flight).
More luxury hotels/cruises or more luxury rooms in the same hotel/cruise. Standards of accommodation.
Longer stay at certain city based on your request.
Extra service or extra meals.
If you want to stay longer…
There are so many ways to extend your time in Vietnam and Indochina. Once you arrive, you won’t want to leave!
Make extra trip to Phu Quoc or Con Dao, two of our most beautiful islands. Etc…
Stay longer on your cruise trip to Halong Bay. Etc…
Stay extra days and relax at beachside resort. Etc…
Spend more time visiting northern mountain province.

How our prices work:

The price shown on tour program includes everything mentioned on the tour but excludes flight (domestic and international). Unlike other tour operators that include these flights in the program, we want to give you the option of customizing these flights based on your request. As flight cost will change from season to season, you will save a lot by looking into the flight after finalizing the tour and we can surely help search the best price flight for you.

All of the portion of the tour are private (unless otherwise stated): airport pick up, guided tour, etc. Price is based on 2 people travelling together so if you are a single person, the price may differ. We place a strong focus on both individualized experience and value for money – so please enjoy your tour booking process with us with peace of mind.

FLEXIBILITY:
Don’t see the date for this tour to suit your schedule? No problems, Create Your Own Date. Choose the dates that you want to travel and as long as you happy to open the tour to other people joining we will charge you the standard tour price – no markups!

CONDITIONS:

  1. You must have booked and paid your deposit for travel dates that are at least 1 to 3 months in the future. This just gives us time to promote the trip and find other people to join you.
  2. Create Your Own Date for this tour applies for bookings of two or more people only. If you are a solo traveller we can do our best to get a group for the dates you choose but we cannot guarantee standard pricing until we achieve a minimum of 2 people.
  3. This offer is subject to availability. In peak season we may not have the capability to add tour dates to our already busy schedule..
